"Outside the Box"
A Silent Auction Fundraiser for Artists In Action ~ Call to Artists In Action Members ~ Salem Art Fair, July 21-23, 2006 Friday, 10 am to 8 pm; Saturday, 10 am to 8 pm; Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm Deadline: Friday & Saturday, July 14 & 15, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Deliver to the studio of Diane Trevett. See more info below. Purpose: Members of Artists in Action are asked to create and donate "boxes" to be silent-auctioned at the Salem Art Fair in our booth. 100% of monies raised, less 20% to the Salem Art Association, will go to promote awareness of Artists In Action and its members. This is also an opportunity for your work to be seen at the Fair. Last year was a great success we grossed $523.20! The Box: A "box" can be any type of container with or without a lid, and any shape. *Note: Wood boxes in various sizes may become available from our member Kathleen Huun. She will be contacting me soon. You will be informed when and if these are ready via email and perhaps through the AiA website. Medium: you can paint an existing box, or create your own box. It can be ceramic, wood, tile, mosaic, etc. It must be original. It must be well constructed and finished, i.e. no raw edges, sloppiness, or unevenness. It should be professional and artful. Remember that what we present to the public is a reflection on Artists In Action as a whole. We want to look good! Size: any, but if it is a small box, you may want to do a set of boxes, such as stacking or nesting. We want to get a good number of people wanting to purchase the raffle tickets so the box(es) should be substantial and significant, reflecting a minimum value of $25.00. Ideas: Keepsake box, gift box, game box, assemblage box, travel box, the contents of the box, a set of boxes (e.g. stacking boxes or nesting boxes), the box and contents of the box (with its own theme - travel box, garden box, seed box, kitchen box, paint box, tool box, pencil box, hat box, magazine box, memory box, photo box, CD box, etc. Box material can be paper, wood, ceramic, mosaic, glass, metal, fiber, fabric. These boxes can be functional or decorative. Please send me your additional ideas and I will pass it on to the members. Jury Decision: I have a small committee that will review your piece for originality, high quality, and appropriateness to the success of the raffle. The review will take place on Saturday, July 15th at 2:00 pm. ** To expedite the jury process, please contact Diane Trevett by email or phone to give a description of your box, including the size, materials being used, etc. to be sure you are headed in the right direction before you finish your piece.
