Paint the Town
A month-long event, held annually in June/July, giving artists the opportunity to come out of their studios and create their art on location at selected spots in Salem. The paintings do not need to be completed on-site. The event was started in 1998 by Wayne Knowles, and has continued each year since. It is now organized by Artists in Action. Following the on-site painting event, there are awards and a group reception and exhibit. A one-time fee is require to participate in all locations within each calendar year. This fee is separate from membership.

Sixth Annual Paint The Town 2004
Get ready for the 6th annual Paint the Town! From July 1-17, 2004, the public is invited to watch artists outside of their studios creating “en plein air”. Besides satisfying curiosity, people will learn that there is great salable art available locally. Artists will enjoy the camaraderie of fellow artists and benefit in exposure of their artwork. This year, variety has been emphasized by adding figure drawing to the mix of landscape, garden art, and two art festivals. Locations are as follows:
This event was conceived to promote artists residing in and near Salem and to draw the public’s notice to art in Salem. This is a great opportunity to make yourself even more visible as an artist. Media includes any artistic material including 3-D.
The activity is coordinated by Artists in Action and anyone may join and be eligible for the juried show by sending $20 adults; $15, under 18 yrs., to Artists in Action PTT, P.O. Box 2684; Salem, OR 97308-2684.
