| SUBJECT: PAINT THE TOWN: Artists In Actions will continue its summer art tradition of the 9th Annual Paint The Town event. During the month of July, the event gives area artists of all skill levels the opportunity to come out of their studios and create their art on location en plein air at select picturesque sites in and around Salem. The mission of Paint The Town is to raise awareness of the arts and artists in the Salem area, to present an opportunity to see artists creating, and to offer artists an organized event where they can paint outdoors with exhibit opportunity. Also, the Salem community is invited to visit the locations to observe the artists at work. We invite you to enjoy your time with us and to bring a chair and a snack and stay a while! How to Participate If you are an artist and wish to participate in Paint The Town, you may show up at any of the dates and locations on the schedule and check in with the site coordinator. The fee to participate is $20 for all locations and must be paid prior to participation. Bring your fee to your first location and give to the site coordinator. Or, you may mail your payment in to: Artists In Action, P.O. Box 2684, Salem, OR 97308. Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable after July 5. You may join the event any time you wish; and you do not need to paint in all locations. Paint as few or as many locations as you wish! Paint The Town Exhibit Finished artwork will be juried and then presented at the exhibit from September 1st through the 26th at the Elsinore Gallery and Framing on High Street in downtown Salem. GUIDELINES - Paint the Town 2006
Be sure to check in with the site coordinator at each location as specified in the Schedule. If you bring along an artist friend to paint, he/she is expected to pay the fee. Works do not have to be completed on location, but should be started on location. You may not bring along artwork to sell on location, but you may bring a portfolio, photo album and business cards. You may not solicit sales, but if someone asks you, that is a different story. Use discretion. You may not block booths or business entrances. Ask permission of the owner to paint a recognizable private residence. Use a drop-cloth when warranted. ALWAYS ask permission before painting, sketching, photographing subjects such as children, residences, businesses; be considerate and think how you'd feel if someone camped outside to paint your house or took pictures of your children or grandchildren in the park! You may stay beyond hours posted. Dusk and nighttime scenes are fine - as long as you are legal and considerate! |
