An Update on Something Red

Greetings, Fellow Artists!

We're thankful that the hardest part is done - now it's time to reap the rewards, or awards in some cases...

Congratulations to the Award Winners and all the Artists whose work is exhibited for this event.

Postcards for you to use and counter cards with maps are available for you to pick up at The Art Department, located at 270 Commercial Street NE, Salem.

List of where each art piece is being shown.

Your art is now exhibited in participating businesses, and ready for the December 7
Art walk, reception, and exhibit!

Below is really Important Information to Read before The Art Walk and Reception:

On the evening of the art walk and reception (December 7), you may pick up your name tags around 4:45 p.m., in front of Windflower Hills’ Gallery (formerly Dancing Asparagus, which is downstairs in the Reed Opera House,) 189 Liberty Street NE, Salem, Oregon.   A small disclaimer:  BEFORE going to the business(es) exhibiting your work. please verify the location(s) of your artwork on an updated list that will be at the table that will be set out at Windflower Hills.  The list may be updated between now and December 7 to confirm and correct any discrepancies.

Please make a minimum 15 minute ‘appearance’ at one or more of the businesses exhibiting your artwork between 5:00 and 6:30 p.m. on December 7. Be sure to greet the store owner and introduce yourself, and just be available to greet the public. You are encouraged to wear something Red! The participating businesses have been generous in paying a fee to participate and present your artwork, which made possible the funding for advertising in print media, posters, postcards, mailers and passport/mapcards, plus sharing holiday retail space to exhibit and sell your work.

By 7 p.m. please return to Windflower Hills Gallery for Awards Presentation. Although award ribbons will be hanging with your art, we will also announce People’s Choice Award and have a short presentation to recognize all the artists and award winners. All artists are invited to attend along with friends, family, and members of the general public. Refreshments will be served. (Award Winners Note: You may take your ribbons with you if you like, or leave them with your exhibit and pick them up at the end of the month – it is your choice. Remember, the ribbons may make your art more appealing to customers, but it is up to you. The ribbons, however, are for you to keep after the exhibit. If you wish to leave your ribbons with your work, be sure to let the store owner know that upon sale of your work, the ribbon is to be retained for you.)

During the evening of the reception, and throughout December, please visit as many of the participating businesses as you can and thank the store owners for their participation and generosity in making this event a success, and supporting the arts and artists in the community.

Check with the store owner during the last week of December to retrieve your sales money (your price less 15% commission) or your unsold artwork.

Art wrapping: If the wrapping you brought your artwork in, was in re-usable condition with your name on it, it traveled with your artwork to the business in which it is exhibited. This goes with the customer, if the piece is sold, or the store owner should return it to you if you are retrieving unsold art.

Artists’ participation in this event has been tremendous. The response from the judges, the sponsors, the businesses and public has been incredible. We want to know how this experience has been for you and suggestions for improving this event this year. We invite your input on how this event has worked for you, whether it has worked well, please tell us. If something didn’t work well, please, please tell us! And let us know if you would like to participate in this next year. Please reply with your comments to aia@artistsinaction.com, or write to us at the address on this letter.  We will also be following up with the sponsors and participating businesses to ask for their feedback.

Finally, much thanks goes to the "Something Red" Committee of volunteer artists from Artists in Action that devoted countless hours and energy to make this happen.  This is one tremendously giving group that I am extremely proud to be associated with.  If you're new to our group, WELCOME!  If you'd like to know more about us, please join us at our January meeting, which will be held the 4th Thursday of January, 6:30 p.m., at Blue Pepper Gallery, upstairs, located at 241 Commercial Street NE, Salem.

We look forward to seeing you at the reception! Oh, and remember to wear Something Red!

Sincerely,

Marilyn Krug and Diane Trevett
Co-chairs
